: I think it's just coincidence. The Others didn't have any clue that Oceanic Flight 815 would be crashing on their island. If they did they wouldn't have been so surprised to see it coming down. The Others had no clue that Desmond would be late "pressing the button"

On the surface, it seems the psychic tried to prevent Claire from giving her baby away because if she did it would (judging by his degree of anxiety) lead to Aaron growing up to be the Antichrist or something on that order. Insisting she take Flight 815, which we are meant to assume he knew would crash, was just another means to the same end -- preventing her and the baby from being separated.

On the other hand, the psychic also told Ecko that he was a powerless fraud, so it ~is~ possible that his attempts to prevent Claire from giving up the baby were prompted by someone else behind the scenes trying to spook her into keeping it. However, I think it much less likely that the psychic's strings were being pulled by the Others* than by, say, Christian Shephered trying to prevent his only (?) grandchild from disappearing into the adoption system.

* [It seems the Others could have easily approached Claire directly (as they did Juliet), perhaps pretending to be an adoption agency. Or even flat out kidnapped her and/or the baby. They don't seem averse to a little cradle robbin'.]
