I think they were added to die. Whether or not it was supposed to be together or this fast... that I don't know. But I think they brought them in as fodder.

I have a feeling that they're gonna be dumb and kill somebody else off before the end of the season. And right now.... I don't think there's anyone on the show that I would be okay with if they died. Bernard maybe. But not Rose. Aaron maybe. but not Claire.
