I think being upset about it is fine. Being mad at Obama because he fought it and lost is oblivious to me.

I just like that Dalton thinks Obama is going to lose before he even knows whom the opponent is. Not that any of the clownshow would-be nominees in the GOP have a shot in hell regardless.
Who do you think's gonna win, Dalton? Are you voting Ron Paul?

The Expendables avatar was perfect for this post.

If what happened on Saturday does not make you at least reconsider where you are putting your vote in November, I just don't get it.
Jordy, do you vote in California or Iowa?

I don't know if he's going to lose but he's not doing himself any favors in my opinion. Not vetoing that bill was a cynical political move, which I think could very well wind up hurting him. Maybe not even this specific move but the political philosophy that lead to it. I would not vote for Ron Paul, or any of the GOP candidates.

So the Republicans forcing Obama's hand to do something you and him don't like is leading you to believe making easier for them in the future is the smart play? I can't imagine why Obama is cynical about his base. California, for the props.

He should have vetoed it. Bush used the veto 12 times in 3 years and Obama's used it twice. This was one of the battles we voted for him to choose.

Once Obama threatened to veto if that language wasn't stripped out they went back to congress with it and they would have voted to override his veto. That would have been a colossal fuck up on Obama's part and we'd still have the same bill only without his signing statement. But at least he tried. I really shouldn't say Republicans did this to him, it was congress. The thing passed the senate 93-7. He's supposed to veto something that passes THIS senate 93-7? Again, they would have just overridden his veto.

I don't agree that the Democrats would have voted override his veto. Even if they did, so what? I would've admired his effort. Why should we care about a signing statement? I'm not going to get into a long pointless back and forth here, but the guy's been disappointing on many levels. His failure to stand up on this issue is the end of my support.

I understand your position, Dalton. But I also shudder to think what we'll end up with if Obama loses.

I really regret posting anything. My new year's resolution was to let people be wrong about things and I broke it almost immediately.

Right and wrong in a case like this one depends on what your priorities are.

He's taken one of the most odious aspects of the Bush administration and codified it into law. That I shudder at.

Honestly I wish he HAD vetoed it even though he knew he'd be overridden, just on principle. But even if he signed it, I feel the onus is on congress far more than Obama himself.
