Yeah, but with THE SIMPSONS, the great episodes were *so great* that they're some of the best things that have ever been on television. That has to count for something.

I can't really argue with you.  It was VERY close to being on my list.  And, as Josh said, it can change day by day.  5 is a impossibly short list.

"Top" as in our personal favorite shows (Fresh Prince) or "Top" as in critically acclaimed (M*A*S*H)?

The Wire
The Simpsons
The Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Seinfeld

"Top" as in a mix of the level of enjoyment they brought me, mixed with the fact they sort of changed my view of storytelling and comedy and um life you guys.

This is like asking me to name my top 5 video games*.

I LOVE Fawlty Towers and could watch any episode, anytime, and would still enjoy it.

I would also put COLUMBO up there as well, but the series is more of a TV movie than a TV show.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Twilight Zone (I love it when Syfy does the New Years marathons)
South Park
Torchwood (specifically Children of Earth season/mini series, may be the best thing to be on TV)
Simpsons
Family Guy (I'm sorry)
Doctor Who
Beauty and the Beast

I know, not five. By the way, I'm not copying Wolfe, I had decided to do ten when I saw the thread. Futurama was close just for Jurrassic Bark (that episode still makes me she'd a couple of tears) and Luck of the Fryish. The Mary Tyler Moore show almost made it too for Chuckles Bites the Dust.

I don't like the idea of top 5, since it is so limiting and cross-genre/format it becomes ridiculous. But I just want to put MOONLIGHTING into the bag of top-of-the-lists shows.

I'm surprised to see The Twilight Zone held with such high regard. I've never seen any of it. Not that I thought it was bad, I just never realized people thought it was that great compared to stuff that's on TV nowadays. Netflix has seasons 1, 2, 3, and 5 streaming so I'll probably watch some of these at some point.

I can't make a list because there's so many I'd want to put on there and not sure if I'd want to include stuff like The Simpsons, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, or Futurama, which all started out fantastic and became shitty.

So instead I'm going to make a list of my top 5 favorite shows right now -- meaning shows currently on the air. Stuff like The Simpsons doesn't qualify because I don't watch it anymore and it hasn't been good in over a decade.

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Parks and Recreation
Community
The Ricky Gervais Show (weird to include on a list like this, I know, but it makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe)
