Jackie Earle Haley is Rorschach.
Billy Crudup is Dr. Manhattan.
Patrick Wilson is Nite Owl II.
Malin Akerman is Laurie Juspeczyk, aka Silk Spectre II.
Matthew Goode is Ozymandias.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is The Comedian.
Mostly unknowns. Jackie Earle Haley is a great choice for Rorschach though.

- rando How disappointing. We got teased with Jude Law, John Cusack and Ron Pearlman. And now we get the child molester from HARD CANDY, a girl who took her top off in HAROLD & KUMAR and some dude from Grey's Anatomy. Haley and Crudup are pretty cool though. Anyone else hear that Alan Moore is going to voice himself on THE SIMPSONS next season? That's weird.

I thought the same thing, but hey if hiring a cast of unknowns helps him stay more true to the source material without studio interference then i'm all for it.

That cast is pretty great, and Morgan would be a better Comedian than Ron Perelmen, let's be honest.

I was really hoping that the Nathan Fillion as the Comedien rumor would come true.

I'm still gutted Paddy Considine isn't Rorshach. That would have been absolutely perfect. Oh well.
Weird that the cast is mostly unknowns, but it can only help the film. I think it's an excellent decision.

Denny from GREY'S ANATOMY as the Comedian? Interesting. Most of these guys I haven't heard of so I really don't have an opinion. I do hope it's awesome, though.

I was really hoping they'd cast people who were old enough to play the roles, but I do like the idea of Haley as Rorshach.
Did anybody else read the Variety announcement of this? If what Variety said is true, it's a big spoiler, but they're *really* messing with the ending, and, arguably, what 'Watchmen' is fundamentally about. (They may have had to change the ending because of "Heroes", I guess.)

Sorry, I was wrong, it was the Hollywood Reporter (but I assume it was from a press release, so Variety was *probably* the same or similar). Here's an indirect link: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=122573I can't tell whether only the quoted parts are from the article, or the whole thing is the article and the quotes are from the press release, but, either way, the description of Ozymandias is in quotes...

According to the article... Ozymandias is scheming, not to bring about world peace in a roundabout way, but to stop Dr. Manhattan from causing some catastrophe. This means that Dr. M is either a villain or inadvertantly causes the catastrophe... but Dr. M doesn't do anything without knowing all of the consequences of it... so Dr. M is a villain, and Ozymandias is, thus, a hero. Seems like quite a change, and quite a spoiler. I'm holding out a little hope that they're leaking fake spoilers like that so that the real reveal will be a surprise to people who haven't read it, but, I can't lie, my expectations dropped a lot when I read that one sentence.

THey all seem to be unknowns, but also great actors. Jason Patric was EXCELLENT as a man conflicted about his role in life in Angels In America, and I've never seen Goode in a film, but he definitely looks the part, being handsome but also with a crazy streak in him.
The guy that plays the Comedian may have been chosen primarily because he looks the part, and is young enough to make the flasbacks believable, and old enough to effecitvely age him to his sixties.

Yeah, I really don't think that's for real. Then again... "He hatches a plot to avert a global catastrophe he believes will be caused by Dr. Manhattan." This could be a reference to Dr. M allegedly causing cancer in people, couldn't it? I actually read a couple of recent drafts of the script and they don't fuck with it THIS much. There's a few variations to the whole thing (mostly the ending) and one part that I really wish wasn't there, but the main story is still intact for the most part.

Neri - that's true, but-- isn't that something which Oz made up in order to get rid of Dr. M? Although, now that I think about it, I don't know if that would fool him unless it were also true. EDIT: My roommate reminded me, the tachyons interfere with Dr M, at least a little. Also, where did you get a draft?
