I don't get how Baumbach came off bad.
There's a certain flavor of blase self-involved that passes itself off as honest, or something, that I just don't vibe with. I mean, I know interviews are, by definition, you talking about you; or discussions are all "well, this is MY perspective." That isn't what I mean.
But when he and Maron were together, the kind of self-uber-alles levels rise to a point where I am not angry or going, "Well EFF THOSE GUYS" or anything, but I just go, "This, I am not having fun listening to."
Happened with Azaria, as well. (Whose work I love in an embarrassing way.) Not that they're BAD people. Just not my kind of person that I'd want to talk with for extended periods of time.
Actually, with the Baumbach one, I turned it off halfway through and listened to yours. Your friend sounds like Chumley from PAWN STARS if Chumley got the FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON treatment and became smart. They have similar emphasis in their sentences.
