I'm guessing things like Seth McFarlane cartoons threw everything over the line. THE SIMPSONS was a great example of that thing parents really didn't want you to be watching, but you did and it didn't warp you too badly. But now kids are subject to rape jokes and Bugs Bunny getting stabbed and stuff like that, so the line isn't even there anymore.
What is SIMPSONS like these days, is it still trying to be FAMILY GUY?

My kids watch THE SIMPSONS and whenever I caught an episode this season I found it surprisingly good (compared to anything in the past 10 years). And there were a few truly great episodes.

The thing I don't get about this or BREAKING WIND is that these things are so far into the realm of self-parody already, in and of themselves. They don't really stand up to satirization (sp?). When something is this ridiculous to begin with, the original is invariably funnier than the parody.
MAD magazine parodied serious things, most often; at least, back in its heyday.

That was one segment of the Hallowe'en episode. Most of the others have been pretty good this year and I really liked the one from a couple of weeks ago with the cruise ship.

My family was huge on Mad Magazine in the late '80s/early '90s. I scanned a few articles from some beat 80s/90s Mad and Cracked magazines before putting them in a neighborhood garage sale this past weekend. Back to the Future, Moonlighting, Lethal Weapon 2, and Dick Tracy parodies plus a couple WWF related bits. Who remembers The Fabulous Moolah, seriously?

Yeah, I got my oldster lady tag team wires crossed. The "gave birth to a hand" thing was too vivid in my mind.
