I'm very unimpressed with this so far.  I don't know if it's fair of me to compare it to THE THICK OF IT, but what VEEP seems to lack is a Malcolm Tucker-like character.  Not that it needs Malcolm Tucker exactly, but his fury was the funniest thing about that show/film after all.  But maybe more importantly, there doesn't seem to be a character who's in charge, either aware of the stupidity that's going on or flat-out pulling the strings.  As it is, all the characters are just sort of dopes, but you don't get to be Vice-President by just being a dope.

And pretty close with this one too (which I assume is the inspiration for this show)

Given that she's trying to pass a clean jobs bill and is willing to try and exclude the oil industry, it's a pretty safe bet she's a Democrat, right?

Yeah, there are some moments of this show that are amusing, but it doesn't really add up to anything.  There's no great characters to hang your hat on or hilarious stuff going on yet.  Just an amazing performer in an okay show.

It would seem to have direct parallels with the current government, as was the case with THE THICK OF IT and IN THE LOOP.  One of those situations where they're not saying it is the current government, except they are, but they're not, but they are.

Regarding a Quayle-like person, the (fictional) comedy or (real-life) horror would lie with whoever got him there and told him what to do, I imagine.

Can we all agree we'd like the show more if it was called VP instead of VEEP?
