It's much simpler than that. IFC made a distribution deal with Criterion, so a lot of its titles are getting Criterion releases. It always seems to the well-received ones.

Their model has definitely changed a bit, though. It isn't as crazy as it was back in the laserdisc days when we had a Criterion GHOST BUSTERS, but they're definitely getting catalog titles like HAROLD AND MAUDE that they wouldn't have had a chance of ten years ago.

Which I'm fine with. The only shitty release I've ever seen them put out is their recent THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST Blu, which looks *awful*. Everything else has been great. I want them to do everything.

What made GHOSTBUSTERS criterion? They didn't have a commentary or deleted scenes or anything like that.

It doesn't have anything on it, really, but that's what they used to do. Studios didn't want to make their own laserdiscs because it was such a niche market, so they licensed them to Criterion. There are Criterion laserdiscs of a lot of crazy stuff, like MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, PULP FICTION and THE PRINCESS BRIDE.

The stuff like ROBOCOP and ARMAGEDDON that came out on Criterion DVD were essentially holdovers from those old deals - they hadn't lost the rights to that stuff yet.

The best part is, they look awesome and you can get them all for pretty cheap on eBay:

If you, or anyone on the board, collect Laserdiscs... we have I wanna say like 4,200 laserdiscs here at work that we don't know how to move. So if there's any specific title anyone is looking for, I might be able to help you out.

This is becoming one of my favorite shows. Thank goodness it's on HBO so it will get renewed no matter what.

The lonely Island guy was terribly miscast. That guy saying that thing to that girl should not have resulted in that action.

There's something about this show that rubs me the wrong way. Lena Dunham is crazy talented, the cast is super great, and I laugh out loud a lot. I don't know what my problem is.

I watched it for the first time last night.  I felt the same way.  I think I'm just too old for this show.  But Brian Williams daughter is stunning.  Her's was the only character I was really interested in.

It's a show about people who are essentially assholes. But so is ENTOURAGE.
