Just added Grumpy Old Men. Even with this thread in existence, I thought it was generally really well regarded. But it doesn't seem to be very high on anyone's list. Is that based on memory or seeing it recently?
Wow, I can't believe I ranked it a few places under SWING KIDS on my list.  Not sure what I was thinking.  It's a movie I genuinely love.  I haven't seen it in years, though.  Burgess Meredith still cracks me up in it.

I watched JASON GOES TO HELL and it should only exist as a short movie with the beginning and the ending with the Freddy glove. The rest is people possessed by Jason. So boring. That was a great era of posters being way more awesome than the movie.

The opening and ending are pretty great. The rest of the movie isn't, but I kind of enjoy that a Jason movie tried to do something new, even if what it tried wasn't anything like a Jason movie.

Jason movies tried new things all the time. It's kind of amazing that it never once worked.

JASON GOES TO HELL was the only one that really went outside the lines. The other ones just changed the settings but did the same thing.

It always felt like they start with the idea of trying something different, though not necessarily good (all of the twists at the end of V, the humor in VI, etc.), but then at some point everyone involved realized what it was all about and just did another Jason movie.

VII:THE NEW BLOOD features a young woman who somehow can use the force, and is my favorite of the series. Plus Hodder plays as Jason, so that's also a plus.

Yeah, that's it. In the later sequels, they kept throwing in high-concept stuff that could have been great, but they didn't really do enough with the ideas to make the end result be anything more than just another Jason movie. However, JGTH pulls this crazy mythology out of its ass, which, if nothing else, does set it apart from the other movies.

Hodder was never a Jason in a good Jason movie.   Not that there really were many of those.

I don't know. There's really only been two or three straight up Jason movies out of like eight. He's not even in a lot of them and he was in space for one. None of them are good, but they all have their moments.

And I no longer feel the least bit bad about singling out AmusePseud's list (on the first page of this thread) because he has only gotten more annoying since with his "haven't seen enough to rank" lists coming close to outnumbering his actual lists. Never mind that alphabetical nonsense.

The "haven't seen enough to rank" sections are meant to forestall any "Wait, you mean you've never seen ____ ??" type questions about the films in .. uh.. question.

You're just shining a spotlight on them. And you know that.

SON IN LAW over AIRBORNE? THE SANDLOT barely above the bottom of your list?

Can Dobbin and I switch places so you can become my arch-nemesis (you're going to go ahead and also move Ninja Scroll near the bottom as I love that movie)?

He's probably right about Airborne.
