There's a massive difference between adapting the blues to a modern-for-the-70's rock sound, or rather continuing to adapt, versus copying a 20-second piece of a song and repeating it over and over.

This is a very 90's argument.

Actually, if I recall, Diddy (nee Puff Daddy) didn't technically sample Zeppelin.  Jimmy Page played him a newly recorded part for the song.  No?

I have no clue, but they be licensing yo.

That, and this was well over a decade ago (though the song remains the same; awful).

I agree, there IS a big difference -- Diddy paid for his use of the song content.  Zeppelin just straight ripped-off a bunch of poor black people.

(Well, until they were forced to pony up in court for "Killing Floor" et. al.)

It is a shitty song though, don't get me wrong.  But Page not only gave it willingly, he played it fresh.  So, if you're mad at anyone, be mad at him.

Bingo!

Also... sampling isn't easy.  At all. Especially to pull off and  make it work.

Yeah... I've seen at least 160 of these ( I was running a Blockbuster and going out to the movies a few times a week at that time), no way I'm organizing that.

Love:  Zero Effect, Dark City, The Big Lebowski, The Big Hit, Bullworth, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, The Truman Show, Dirty Work, Small Soldiers, PI, There's Something About Mary, BASEketball, Dead Man On Campus, Pecker, What Dreams May Come, Night at the Roxbury, Bride of Chucky, Orgazmo, Very Bad Things, A Simple Plan

Hate: Sphere, Krippendorf's Tribe, Chairman of the Board, The Man in the Iron Mask,, Woo, Avengers, Wrongfully Accused, Urban Legend, Strangeland, Holy Man, Belly

I remember thinking MAN IN THE IRON MASK was fun; like, a callback to the kind of dopey fun of the old tyme Musketeer movies.

I'm sure you are referring to the legal issues that surround sampling.

Yeah, it was Puff Daddy feat. Jimmy Page. That was also a great soundtrack to a horrible movie.

SOCIALISM!!!

I'm not saying sampling is easy, but I don't see where there's any question whether the music for "When the Levee Breaks" took longer to create than the music for "Mo Money, Mo Problems", for example.

I found it hard to enjoy with DiCaprio's awful performance, and I usually like him in most things.

Isn't satire supposed to be funny?
