Yeah the virgin episode.
I totally forgot that this was a separate episode from the masturbation contest one, and I thought "Wow, it's weird to refer to the masturbation contest episode by any other subplot..."

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS AMERICAN REUNION 21 JUMP STREET THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT NEW JEFF, WHO LIVES AT HOME CHRONICLE WANDERLUST HAYWIRE PROJECT X THE THREE STOOGES GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE CASA DE MI PADRE FRIENDS WITH KIDS THE DEVIL INSIDE TOTAL RECALL NEW THE HUNGER GAMES A THOUSAND WORDS THE GREY THIS MEANS WAR
-----------------
FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT is good stuff. It isn’t the most hilarious of all Apatow ventures (though it is still very funny), but it was maybe the most emotional. A lot of it was stressful and depressing to watch. There’s a lot of honesty in it. Chris Pratt and Brian Posehn steal the show, and Pratt, Alison Brie and Mindy Kaling kind of made it like the AVENGERS for secondary NBC Thursday actors.
I put TOTAL RECALL on the list, but I guess it’s probably tentative, since I didn’t see the final cut. However, the cut I saw clocked in at almost exactly two hours and there isn’t a lot they’ll be able to lose, so I figure what I saw was basically the movie that will be released in August, just without finished effects. And what I saw was not good. And I also might not bother re-seeing it, so there it is.

It's always been weird for me to think that the Farrelly Brothers wrote a SEINFELD. Even weirder that the episode they wrote didn't have, like, Elaine queefing or Kramer shitting his pants or some such thing.

Peter Farrelly wrote a novel called The Comedy Writer that seems like it must be somewhat autobiographical in some aspects, including a part where the main character sells a story to Seinfeld. The novelized version, he basically just blurts out "what about virgins? I dated a girl that was a virgin for a while, it was so stressful..." and Larry and Jerry laugh and decide to buy that concept and write a script including that. Who knows how true that is, but that's how it happened in the book.

THE COMEDY WRITER has a lot of STUCK ON YOU elements but more dramatic and less Siamese.

I like THE COMEDY WRITER and OUTSIDE PROVIDENCE a lot, but both definitely have the feel of having been written by a guy who's used to writing movies.
I actually really like the movie OUTSIDE PROVIDENCE as well. It's not the most emotionally engaging movie ever, but it's fun.

Watched CHIMPANZEE last night.
I was really hoping the movie would be more educational, but it was just apes monkeying around with Tim Allen narrating. Luckily Allen only grunted twice and only said "Tool Time" once.

THE AVENGERS is every bit as awesome as you want it to be. It’s smart, funny, clever, exciting, and basically everything movies on this scale should be and rarely are. This holds true even when it turns into, for all intents and purposes, a Michael Bay movie in the third act. And there are a couple of Hulk things in that third act that caught me off guard by how hard they made me laugh. We’ll talk more in the inevitable spoiler thread, but holy cow, what a good time that was.
Man, two Whedon movies in one month and both are outstanding. These are blessed times. Like the movie equivalent of that four-month period where BUFFY, ANGEL and FIREFLY were all on the air at once.
THE RAID was also awesome. My only regret is that I saw it in a theater with only three other people in it instead of with a packed house, so I feel I missed out on what should have been an amazing communal experience.

So glad to hear it's awesome. Please, everyone, take a page from Wolfe and don't spoil anything for AVENGERS. If you gotta, start an AVENGER spoiler thread.

Yes, good on Wolfe for that. I wanted to read his initial thoughts but didn't want to take any chances. Twitter is already thinking it's okay to quote things and list their favorite parts. Why does everyone but the US get it released a week ahead of time in this day and age? Horrible.
Now that I'm over the initial annoyance, Wolfe, was this a hard screening to get into? I have been shut out for things far lamer than this but Sacramento may be a mellower town for these kinds of things.

I know better than to spoil things for people. Even the part about Hulk making me laugh caused some internal debate over whether or not it was too revealing.
It wasn't hard, but I got there an hour earlier than I usually do just because I wanted to take no chances. I kind of thought this one would be a cake walk because the regular screening for all the radio stations is on Monday and this one was under the radar, but because it was this movie, I didn't want to even risk getting shut out. I heard something like 250 people were turned away and it got ugly outside.

The Raid: Redemption The Hunger Games Jiro Dreams of Sushi The Cabin in the Woods 21 Jump Street John Carter Red Tails Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope The Three Stooges American Reunion Wanderlust Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie Chronicle Friends with Kids
COMIC-CON was fun in the sense that it was cool to see the convention and whatnot, and Whedon and Stan Lee etc. had fun stuff to say, but just like Spurlock's last doc, nothing really happened. I would have also loved some downtime with the "characters", simple conversations which would have made us know them more (like in AMERICAN MOVIE or even TREKKIES). There was literally a character they called "The Collector" who said, after a long introductions, that "I want to get a Galactus figure" and then five minutes later he got it and we never saw him again. Talk to his wife, and his kids, anything. The girl who made the Mass Effect costumes (with animatronics!) was pretty amazing though.
