A Thousand Words is the worst mainstream comedy I've ever seen, I think. It actually hurt to watch. And is Murphy's worse movie by a million miles. This Means War was nothing out of the ordinary in its badness. It actually had a few Tom Hardy moments that were funny.

Is Eddie Murphy really a jerk in it, though? His mortal sin is cheating his way through a coffee line.
He was self-centered. In studio-comedy terms, that means he's a jerk. Though I'm not sure why the universe thought that making him silent was the key to his comeuppance. His mouth wasn't really his problem.

It wasn't his problem. And worse than that, him not speaking made it more difficult to solve whatever problems he sort of had. This Means War was dumb, but not inherently flawed that way. I hate The Grey too. But again, it makes sense at least.

John Carter Wanderlust Red Tails Chronicle Friends with Kids NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW
That was weird. Some decent moments, and the cast is great (Chris O'Dowd was the best)...but everyone made movie decisions. Everything they did and almost every major event was unprovoked and not grounded, things happened because it was the time in the movie when it was supposed to happen. I'm pretty sure Kristen Wiig didn't have a line.

21 JUMP STREET JEFF, WHO LIVES AT HOME NEW CHRONICLE WANDERLUST HAYWIRE PROJECT X GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE FRIENDS WITH KIDS THE DEVIL INSIDE A THOUSAND WORDS THE GREY THIS MEANS WAR
-----------------
J,WLAH is a bit like MAGNOLIA as a comedy, and at about one-sixth of the running time. It doesn’t ultimately amount to a whole lot, but it’s very charming. Segal looks uncannily like Badger from BREAKING BAD in it.

THE LORAX JOHN CARTER newJOURNEY 2 --- JOHN CARTER, not sure what to say. Maybe "meh". I really wanted to like it. I was really rooting for Stanton, but I think he got in over his head. Mostly I didn't care what was going on. Who was fighting who and why? Not sure and really don't care. There were some good elements scattered around but the 50% on rotten tomatoes pretty much nails it. I really liked they guy playing Carter. He was really the only thing interesting to watch. The stuff on Earth was 50 times more interesting then anything that happened on Mars. ***SPOILERS****The Thneeds where controlling the whole thing for there pleasure? Not sure, don't care. What I really don't get is why Juni opened the crypt. How would that be "protecting him"? ***SPOILERS**** I think EW summed it up best. It was based on a stodgy old serial written by Edgar Rice Burroughs 100 years ago? Well, okay, now there’s a point — but in a movie universe where Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones can still be heroes, I’m not sure that attempting to update one of the original genetic strains of the sci-fi superhero genre was so very wrong. Andrew Stanton’s real mistake was in treating his source material with too much reverence, as if it were a sacred text rather than pulp Silly Putty to be stretched and looped and fiddled with.

JOHN CARTER NEW NEW NEW!!! CHRONICLE GHOST RIDER 2
You have to wade through some boring/iffy bits but the highs are pretty damn high. They really didn't do a good job of selling it.

I've read a LOT of articles that say the same thing. But it was exactly what I expected from the trailers. I was just hoping it was going to be better then the trailers made it out to be, like every Pixar movie.

I really enjoyed it, but I think it would have been better as a CG Pixar movie. Obviously the physics would have looked better, and I think they could have had more fun with it, but also I'm sure the Pixar writing team could have broken the story better and found a more compelling plot within the story.
And the review accusing Stanton of staying too close to the story is truly bizarre, since in the original story John Carter is an immortal and inexplicably transports to Mars after an apparent death. I actually would have preferred if Stanton "treated the source material with too much reverence."

They focused too much on the white ape fight that lasts all of what feels like 30 seconds in the movie. Also if they wanted kids to have any interest they really should have concentrated more on showing Woola and Thark stuff, which is very absent in the trailers/tv spots I saw. The last minute "remember Star Wars and Avatar? Well this is where they got that stuff from!" spots seemed ill-advised. Just my two cents.
