I don't think The Roots invited her

Exactly.

I don't think The Roots invited her, and I don't think Fallon knew about it.

Yeah, that doesn't make it less of a dick move. Saying, "Well, they didn't invite her" doesn't wash; Paul Shaffer isn't playing "The Bitch is Back" if he doesn't like Julia Roberts. Now Fallon's going to take the heat for it, and all their future musical intros are going to get scrutinized to a ridiculous degree.

I didn't say it wasn't a dick move, I was responding to Dan.

Not to make too big of a deal of it, but Limbrunner claims he played a TGIF song at his WEDDING. This is much bigger news.

Big deal, I graduated elementary school in my "Don't have a cow, man!" t-shirt.

None of my snark suggestions ever get through, because I usually go too mean (like when I suggested they play "Killer Cars" by Radiohead for Matthew Broderick). I was actually shocked they went this hard with this one.

Do they solicit snarky songs for every guest?

You're being ridiculous.

The thing that most upsets me is that they've done something wherein I actually have to take her side.

In fairness: Jimmy didn't know about what they were going to play for Katie Holmes until just before they started playing, apparently.  Of course, this also probably means he's more afraid of offending Scientology than he is uber-conservatives.

I think it's ridiculous to say that the Roots invited her on the show.  It seems pretty obvious that they didn't like the fact that she was being put on and this was their method of voicing that.

Well said.  The extra-stupid thing is, there are plenty of songs called "Liar", and I don't (personally) think that would be out of line, but "Lyin' Ass Bitch" is too much.

Just based on what Nate is passing along, I don't think Fallon would've gone along with it had he known, so I assume they didn't say what they were playing and he didn't recognize it.  But, actually, come to think of it, I would think a talk show like his would have more to fear from offending scientologists than uber-conservatives; I mean, there's a pretty brief window where politicians are looking to get TV time and will show up on a show like his (that window is presumably now closed, for his show).

Yeah, I actually wouldn't blame him if that was the difference.  It's not like his audience is going to hurt THAT much for having fewer conservative pols show up on his couch.  Scientology would adversely affect his bookings to a far more significant degree.

Not a claim; it's a fact. So is the entire wearing pj's and interrupting a party thing.

That said, Dan's claim is suspicious.

Fallon apologized and seemed sincere.  That ends it, I think.

I like that a pretty liberal democrat fellow congress member called the show to complain.

Wait, I'm confused.  You don't approve of the Roots' actions in this case?  PC POLICE, Dalton.  PC POLICE.

Would it have been better if they played a song called "Lying Braying Pig"?  What's the diff?
