Not that I'm knocking you for reading comics, but having a hold box at 38 just stands out out to me. Did you think you would still be reading at this age? Anyone, really.
I got out of comics in the 90s when Image and zero-number-issues and stuff became en vouge. My big collector-time was, like, 85-92. Before that, I read a ton of silver age stuff by way of having a pack-rat grandmother who had 6 kids with childhoods from the 50s to the 70s. Basically, when I hit college, I lost interest in comics in specific, but still had a general love of the medium.
I started up a hold-box again, actually, because of this board. When Brian wrote that SPIDER MAN issue, I , I went back to my old comic book shop, all grow'ed up. The same guy was working there, which was equal parts sad and great. With SPIKE and ANGEL , I got a hold-box account. I got a few other titles just to keep my foot in the water, but I don't collect-collect anymore. I have the guy mail them to me every month.
With the New 52, I was hoping they'd recapture the kind of post-LEGENDS, post-CRISIS sense of "great things are about to happen!" wonder. It is a combination of 'you can't go home again' and also the fact that many of these things just objectively suck, I think.
I mostly buy and read omnibus stuff and those collected ESSENTIALS and classic-run reprints. I love the idea of comic books and I love a lot of comic books of the past(the art, especially), but I'm really not a big fan of most anything current.
