What's neat is that Morrison kind of called that as a zeitgeist-moment on the horizon in his book; about how he expects a moment and a movement of people in the streets against corporate greed and big-money, which was the mood when Superman came out. I honestly dismissed his talk there as being too much in his head and over-thinking stuff. But the guy's got a method to his madness.
Yeah, DC's timing was impeccable--the relaunch and its shift in Superman tone coincides beautifully with real-life events.  And Morrison called it way before that, even.

Two issues in and that's me done with the new SUICIDE SQUAD, everyone's written to be a bit of a dick, and not in a fun way. Second issue of GREEN LANTERN was much better though, so that's something.

MAJOR UPDATE: Five months in and I can't be fucked with most of the new DC 52. Right now, the only ones I'm picking up are BATMAN, BATWOMAN, FRANKENSTEIN, ANIMAL MAN, SWAMP THING, ACTION COMICS and THE SHADE.

I'm not even sure if the last one counts, because SHADE is totally just a continuation from the STARMAN series. Not that I'm complaining, it's the first decent thing James Robinson has done in years PLUS Darwyn Cooke was the artist on the last issue, and Darwyn Cooke is just great. Am I missing out on anything good? Don't say OMAC, OMAC's getting cancelled.

Deathstroke makes my inner 13 year old go "AWWW SICK!" at every page. It's a lot of fun.

BATMAN has been phenomenal.  Today's issue 5?  CA-RAZY.

BATMAN has gotten very good. I see on the covers of other Bat-books that there's something going with the Joker having his face carved off, which doesn't make me want to read them at all.

DEATHSTROKE (and a couple of other books) getting handed over to Liefeld seems a bit mad, given that HAWK AND DOVE just got cancelled. Deathstroke is probably the most Liefeld-y character that wasn't created by Liefeld though (in terms of name / number of pouches), so I guess it's a good fit.

MORE ABOUT LIEFELD: The Boys parody of Youngblood / X-Force / whatever was an easy shot but still really satisfying:

The Dollmaker as SAW-meets-TEXAS-CHAINSAW-meets-HUMAN-CENTIPEDE thing is not good.

Anybody else besides me kind of really disappointed with whatever weird stylized dialogue/storytelling thing Morrison is doing with ACTION? It feels like he's trying for a kind of "STEVIE WASHINGTON! BORN TO DIE! NEW YORK'S NEW YORK: ALL CRIME!" impressionistic flow of words to suggest the "action" of the plot, but it comes across (to me, anyway) as disjointed and lazy. Or, if it were to work, the art would have to REALLY be telling a visual story that didn't need exposition or captioning. Which it ain't doing.

WONDER WOMAN is the only book out of the new 52 that I'm liking. Which, by the way, is achieving a similar effect in a more successful way, I think.

Was Ann Nocenti always this terrible? I remember her as being well-regarded doing DAREDEVIL, but I didn't read it. Her taking over the already-bad-to-begin-with GREEN ARROW was so terrible that I felt like a joke was being played. It was like a hyper 14 year old wrote it.

Me at 13 would have been homicidal reading this; she's even a bad writer as she talks.  Me at 38 is just no longer putting the issue in his hold box.

Not that I'm knocking you for reading comics, but having a hold box at 38 just stands out out to me. Did you think you would still be reading at this age? Anyone, really.
