I didn't think the SEINFELD scenes were bad at all. They weren't spectacular, but they really only existed to show the characters still doing their thing, same as always. They didn't bring down the house or anything, but it was kind of awesome how well all four actors fell right back into those characters.

Right. It was nice actually seeing them again in action. Regular action. It didn't feel VERY BRADY CHRISTMAS-y at all.

SEINFELD was gut bustingly funny.  Those new scenes were uninspired and devoid of laughs.  Worse than the last two seasons or the finale.

That said, the interplay between Jerry and Larry was funny.

Speaking strictly for myself, I wouldn't have cared if the SEINFELD scenes were intentionally bad, except for the fact that it was heavily billed as "the Seinfeld season". Like, I wouldn't have cared if Larry's PRODUCERS performance from season 4 wasn't good because the show itself didn't put any emphasis on that as an important part of the story.

I'm sure we've all had this conversation before, but I remember my big problem being how much of the 'Seinfeld' stuff was just plotlines and things they'd already done on 'Curb'.  That seemed like a misstep.  I'd be willing to believe that the "George was Fart-with-a-beard, then he lost it all" and "Elaine and Jerry have a baby" stuff was deliberately mocking lame reunion stuff, but when combined with jokes we'd already seen it didn't quite work for me.

Having said that, I did like seeing the actors-in-character, and I really hope Jerry is back this season.

Well, I think that was just a deliberate reference to the fact that Larry used to use stuff that really happened to him on SEINFELD. So seeing "The TiVO Guy" show up in the reunion episode wasn't really that much of a shock to me.

They weren't intentionally bad.  There were scenes of them rehearsing the script with the actors breaking up at the lines.  It made no sense because it wasn't funny.  If some people dug it I'm not gonna say they're wrong for liking it but I just can't relate.  Putting them all together in the same room again doesn't make it automatically funny.

I agree though that the hype did them no favors.  It would've been better to keep it low key, but I guess there's really no way to have done that.

And not for nothing but Jason Alexander is just weird now.

I understand this intellectually.  But it seems lazy -- especially given the assumption that it was based on stuff that actually happened to Larry when it was on 'Curb'.  I think some people LOVE 'Curb' so much that they will watch the re-runs.  I never got that into the show.  I might stop on an episode I've seen for a few minutes, but I rarely re-watch.  So I can understand how, if you don't mind watching re-runs, you're not going to mind watching a show make the same jokes again and call it meta.  But it didn't really do anything for me, and it certainly helped make the 'Seinfeld' stuff seem uninspired.

I wonder if this whole season is going to be awesome episodes with bad endings. Larry was on fire tonight.

For a second I thought you meant
Jerry Minor being arrested
but, yeah, the last bit was weak.

I was wondering if there was going to be some kind of neighborhood arc this season, and maybe the girl scouts will tie back in somehow.

Killer episode, though.  Strangely, I think Larry was pretty much always right.  Maybe not in the ice cream store, but he backed off pretty quick.

Laura Silverman, Curtis Armstrong and Jerry Minor -- that's a great trio of guest stars.  [I can't remember, besides Stiller, have they ever had anybody from SNL who was white?]

Wow, I don't remember Oteri, Newman, Short, or Spade at all.

I was thinking that Minor and Smoove and Meadows was pretty good, statistically.
