it's like Ringo granting approval to use one of John Lennon's songs. Like, nice, thanks Ringo, but it means nothing legally, or even necessarily in terms of what the deceased creator would have wished.
Your arguement makes no sense, because they are credited as writers on the song, so it absolutely means something legally. It doesnt matter how little they contributed to the actual creation of the song. Ill take your Beatles reference and make it more relevent to the situation. Paul McCartney and John Lennon are both credited as writers on every song either one of them wrote as a beatle whether they had anything to do with it or not. Paul absolutely would have a legal say in the licensing of John Lennons music, whether he was involved in the creation of it or not, if SONY didnt own the publishing rights (thanks Michael Jackson!) SONY, I might add, also did not have any creative involvement in writing those songs. If Courtney Love had any concern about how Nirvana music was going to be used, she shouldnt have sold her interest in it. Period. She no longer has any say one way or the other. I hope they start using Smells Like Teen Spirit in Teen Spirit deoderant commercials.

But if she doesn't complain about this, WHAT ELSE is she gonna talk about?

Your arguement makes no sense, because they are credited as writers on the song, so it absolutely means something legally. Well, like I said...he was generous. This was HARDLY the same as the Lennon/McCartney songwriting partnership. But you're right, they did get credit on this one song, as well as a very few others. Frankly, I had forgotten b/c their contributions were so minimal overall, writing-wise, throughout the band's career. Also, Hawkboy, thanks for reminding me that Grohl got all snooty re: GLEE. I guess the Muppets are hip enough for him.

Grohl said that GLEE because Ryan Murphy (creator of GLEE, modern day Jim Henson) badmouthed bands that wouldn't give him their songs. Murphy was really a prick about it too.
And as someone who likes GLEE, yes, of course The Muppets are hipper than GLEE.

That's not the story. Ryan Murphy badmouthed Kings of Leon, specifically, because he was like "aw man, KoL turned us down, the kids would have loved that" and one of the douches from Kings was like "waaaah, buy a better-fitting bra" (blatantly homophobic) and Murphy did call them all assholes or something at that point, but I don't blame him. THAT's when Grohl said his thing.
The fucked-up thing about that is that Kings of Leon licensed their music to GOSSIP GIRL, which I really don't get.
In short, Kings of Leon are douches.

That's a revisionist retelling if I ever heard one... “Fuck you, Kings of Leon,” Murphy says to The Hollywood Reporter. “They’re self-centered assholes, and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of 'Glee' all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.” Aw man indeed...

Nate, please don't bring facts into this. Kurt Cobain's mom was in the room with Ryan Murphy and she says he never said that.

Yes, and prior to that statement, they said they rejected GLEE because it would be "selling out", and immediately after that statement:
"Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck." -- Nathan Followill
So yeah, they were totally cool rockers and HE's the douche? Alright. I actually supported them turning the show down, it's their intellectual property, but once this incredibly homophobic shit came out, not so much.

I think it's totally appropriate to be a douche to homophobes, personally.
I should probably actually watch this movie before posting in this thread anymore.

Nevermind what was here.
Murphy seemed like he was just being a douchebag, not like he was going after them for being homophobic assholes.

He was a douche BEFORE the homophobic stuff, no? I really don't care. Let's end this.

DELETED b/c Danny edited his comments so the response no longer made sense.
Anyway, I actually think it's cool the Muppets did this song. I don't know if Kurt would have been happy with it or not, but obviously he had some problems being happy about anything. Courtney is probably on 5000 drugs and has no idea what she's talking about. (Wasn't she talking about how these songs are cursed, like, six months ago, anyway?)
