I used to have Mario Paint, which I have to assume is rare...

It was mass produced and goes for about two bucks.

Yeah I stumbled into mine, but it's consistently on top 10 rarest games lists, and commands around $1000.  Pretty funny for an unauthorized 8-bit nude tetris.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but you are off by $900.

You'd be lucky to get $100 for it. Without box and instructions, maybe $80

That said, there are suckers out there who over pay for video games everyday. I'm sure someone may pay more than common price to complete a collection.

Brand new, for $99.

To each his Dulcinea, I say.

The only "Holy Grail" item I ever saw with my own eyes was the Entex Adventure Vision; I remember one in the toy store in the mall, but I never played it or knew anybody who had one. They go for an INSANE amount of money on the hand-held collector market. But I wouldn't care so much about having one, as it means nothing to me.

For me, my Holy Grail is the Bambino handheld Boxing game, which the rest of the world values at somewhere around 10 to 20 dollars. But it is crazy-important to me, since it acts as a kind of magic spell to evoke a very specific time period; I can summon up the exact kitchen and details whenever I turn it on, playing it with my dad.

My CIB Atari 2600 collection is the same to me. Nothing really beats playing Missile Command in an unlit room.

I have a friend (not an e-friend) who owns a grey copy of NES WChamp, which he bought for $12K. It's awesome and collectible as all get out, but I'd rather play Yars' Revenge.

But like action figures, I take my games out of the package and enjoy them. Unless I have multiple copies. Still, who wouldn't want to use their Sub-Zero and Scorpion Bookends?

You need a CRT TV to play Atari on. There is something very primal about the primitive sounds that the Atari was capable of, especially in games like Missile Command or Asteroids. My favorite 2600 game is Imagic's Cosmic Ark.

I have a SHARP SRS CRT in my gameroom (which weighs around 300lbs.). Used to have a HUGE Sony Trinitron (which is recommended) but it gave out. I have two RCA's, another Sharp, and another Sony Trinitron (32") as backup if needed.

In all honesty I'm fine with a small crt on a tv tray, but my wife isn't having that.

Look closely, different game.  Pirate Booty.  I have the original, single game in box.  Lowest I've seen it go for is around $700, but it averages between 900-1100.

And I hope you get that amount for it.

I also won't say "strike while the iron is hot" as these games usually don't lose value, just saying in gaming circles you would see about $100 tops for that.

Still, quite a find.

I still have a CRT in the living room. I'm all Admiral Adama about this shit. I don't like flatscreens. I'd like them better if they were just monitors with external/swap-able TV tuners, but even then, I don't trust or like them. Or the way TV shows and movies look. I like a little bit of grain and softening.

I'm unlikely to sell it any time soon.  I considered selling it to pay for comic con, but I hate collecting for profit.  It does dip in value at times, but that's usually when it's sold without it's case:

Depends on the flat screen you get... I like a "flat" picture, and find plasma to be quite pleasing.  You could always go the projector route too.

There's an awful effect on most models that is turned on by default. It's usually called "Motion[insert dumb term here]", like "MotionPlus" or something. Turn that off and stuff returns to normal. I was *mortified* when I thought I'd accidentally bought one that you couldn't turn that effect off on, and I literally had to disable the processing chip on the inside of the set, but you can do it.

And if you're a grain lover, you can't get better than a 1080p HDTV and a good Blu-ray.

Also, the thing is, I've already got my entertainment center all set up. The idea of unplugging it all and arranging to get rid of it, getting a new one to fit the new TV, the expense of all that; I can't get psyched for it, and that same money-chunk seems like it could go elsewhere, if I decided to splurge. Like, I'd see that and say, Otto Schindler style, "That could have been built-in bookshelves! Or a screamingly fast new computer! Or piano and swimming lessons and memberships to local zoos and amusement parks for the kids, or a trip to Sesame Place!"

Super Mario World looks incredible on a projector. I remember my eyes widening when seeing huge Bullet Bill on such a grand scale. Death and Return of Superman also looks great, but it is one tough and unforgiving bmup.

Ugh. That setting where everything looks like it was shot soap opera style right? I have a friend with a HUGE bravia that actually likes that effect. Feels like everything is sped up by a millisecond.

My wife has been playing Dr.Mario for hours each day for the past couple of weeks. Can't get the music out of my head, and I've had Dr.Mario dreams where all I'm doing is playing the game.
