Nothing like a bad mood to ruin a perfectly good movie.
In the end, did the inconvenience ruin the movie for you, or was it just the movie?
No, no-- that didn't ruin the movie. I just felt like it was flawed for being a kids movie, and I was there with my kids, who didn't connect to it the way they do to other movies. I explain (at too much length, probably) in the 2011 movie rating thread.
I think it is a good movie for adults who like kids movies, but not a good kids movie for kids who like kids movies. Sort of like those super-100-points-of-articulation action figures that are objectively cool and awesome, but somehow uninviting for actual kids to actually play with the way, say, SECRET WARS or SUPERPOWERS figures were.
Depp was great, the art and direction was beautiful. Just not inviting. It was sometimes too ugly for its own good and hit enough sour notes to be flawed for me. But I could see where others might love it.
