I don't think I've ever seen my favorite movie of the year this deep into the next, but A Separation is amazing. I'm pretty sure at least one other person had it on his list, but I can't find it. If it was at the top as it should be, it would have been easier. So it's not my fault.
Anyway, more than just that guy should see it. I realize they are not making it easy.

I was waiting until I finally saw Red State to close out the year, so eventhough there's still a hand full of 2011s I stll wanna see, I think I'm about wrapped up. Loved all these additions. Zoo and 50/50 are actually gonna go back and forth for the top spot: I think 50/50 was a better made movie, but Zoo just made me so super happy.

I think it was Donnacha, and I thought it was his favorite movie of the year. Anyway, I'll vouch for it. It's pretty great. The plotting reminded me of 'Breaking Bad' in a way [obviously without the crime element].

Yeah, I saw it. I had it #2. Strang's right about them not making it easy, it only just came out in Chicago; fortunately, it's been on DVD in the UK for ages.

I thought DRIVE was great. The first half was fantastic in terms of dialog and character and direction. The second half was more typical, but fun and really gave Albert Brooks a chance to shine. It was flawed, but insanely entertaining.

Watched 50/50 last night.
I must not have a pulse, because not once did I ever make an emotional connection with any of the characters. "I'm peeing right now" was the highlight of the film to me.

It is with total sincerity and no intended disrespect that I have to ask: Have you ever known anyone with cancer?

Tom, I don't think you've ever been disrespectful to anyone on this board. No worries. My Mother is a survivor (thyroid), my Father in law is a survivor (prostate), my Grandmother is a survivor (lung), my friend who paid for the majority of my lap dances at my bachelor party is a survivor (testicular), my cousin is a survivor (breast cancer at 26), my pal who posts here as Magoonie is a survivor, and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately I also have a list of friends and family who aren't survivors. Also I've been very close to losing my life twice, and almost had both of my legs amputated, so I have my own personal experiences of what it feels like to have your life hanging in balance. But for some reason 50/50 fell flat on me. I had more emotions flow through me when I watched Theo Huckstable visit his cancer diagnosed friend in The Cosby Show.

Does your family live near a nuclear power plant or something?

Another post you'll look back at and ask yourself "why did I type that?". In all honesty, I know you're not trying to be rude. Interesting story: My Grandmother never smoked. Not a puff. Still she was diagnosed with lung cancer at about the same time my Grandfather's Alzheimer's started to progress rapidly. While in a waiting room, my Grandparents started chatting with another older couple, and within minutes they realized that both my Grandparents had attended the same high school with the husband of the couple, who also suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Small world. What was even more of a coincidence was that the husband of the couple also knew my Grandfather's best friend from WW2, Ganka. To this day my Grandmother tells me stories of my Grandfather and Ganka as Army MP's, both who died within weeks from each others death; God bless 'em both.

Ok George Coztanza. Sorry to come off jerky. You and your family and friends seem to face way more than your share of maladies.

Considering the "jerk factory", it was only in jest.
My family, friends, and everyone I've worked with would agree with you about my luck. "Well, that's Luke luck" is a phrase I hear too often. That said my life is a breeze compared to those who have no luck at all.
