I never said that.  But it could have been just a kind of misguided "bonding" prank.  They're 18.  They don't know shit about shit.

I don't know exactly what was in his mind or what went on.

But I looked at that picture of the victim again and this one is just way too sad to argue about.  Hopefully at the very least this story makes kids think twice about this kind of stuff.

These aren't children - these are grown adults who are attending college. And as for the "Young People Don't Understand Privacy the Way We Do" I'd wager that that kid at some point in his high school career had to sit through a Cyber-Bullying Assembly or Presentation.

This was a criminal act, and it should be treated as such. A lot of people do shitty things as "harmless pranks," but that doesn't mean that what they do is somehow exempt for consequences for their actions.

I'd feel the same way, by the by, if the guy didn't kill himself - but then again, if he didn't kill himself, it wouldn't be a story, and we wouldn't be talking about it.

I can't see how this wasn't malicious. Unless the guy was comfortably out and open about his sexuality, which if he killed himself because that became public he clearly wasn't. Recording anyone without them knowing doing anything is insanely creepy though, even as a joke. The perpetrator should be sent to a prison island of some kind.

There are also 18-year olds who don't go to school, work full-time, fight in wars, etc. etc. I don't think the fact that this kid suffered from arrested emotional development means he shouldn't be punished for what he did.
