Goodbye, Mel.

Everybody will focus on the "raped by a pack of niggers" line-- which they should-- but it is the sense of angry, abusive ownership over this woman's body that really genuinely shocks and disgusts me.

The racism is disgusting, too, don't get me wrong, but he's already a known rampaging anti-semite; that's not so much of a stretch.

the whole thing is super-creepy, but certain little things are just gems of scary-angry-dickiness. The contempt in the phrase "why don'tcha?" and the word "appraisal" don't seem real. It is like someone writing an over-the-top asshole's dialog. And how he goes from low but boiling to scream-rage and back again... You can call him a sick man, or whatever, but that sounds like it is almost excusing it, somehow.

Sick, maybe. Asshole, most definitely.

Oh, there is something really wrong there. It's like he's bipolar, but switching moods in the middle of sentences, which is just crazy. Who would want to be around that?

I'm going to be honest... for about ten seconds, I felt bad for Mel.  I was thinking, "She knows she's recording this, so she's keeping very calm and that's obviously just going to make him more pissed; this isn't really an honest recording of the two of them fighting."

That didn't last very long; roughly at the point where I realized what the hell he was talking about with "foreign bodies".  I have to give him credit; the happy-go-lucky Mel Gibson character he plays in movies is a much better acting performance than I had previously realized.

How long do you think before they inevitably reach out to Danny Glover for a comment?

Around the same time Jodie Foster leaps to his defense.

Anybody who owns the DVD can tell me; does Lethal Weapon 4 come with deleted scenes? Because I bet the scene with Uncle Benny where they're cracking jokes about him went on a LOT longer, and got a LOT more awkward.

Is anyone else a bit disappointed he has an American accent in real life? I held out the hope that he locked away his Aussie accent for when he was speaking freely.

Apparently, there's more that is coming out where he admits to hitting her in the face while she was holding the baby. "You fucking deserved it," the tape reportedly says.

During those (relatively) calm moments, his voice takes on a tone that to my ear indicates he really believes he's giving her useful, constructive advice that anyone would be thankful to receive.  "YOU LOOK LIKE A WHORE WITH YOUR JUNK HANGING OUT ARGH I HATE you see, why would you want to be someone who provokes that kind of outburst, silly.  Scone?"
