I've been waiting for this documentary for some time.  I almost sent a video submission in for it, but never had the time nor patience to do so.  Either way, it looks like the film's coming out soon.  If the trailer is any indication, I think that the phrase "George Lucas raped my childhood" might produce an alcohol induced coma if you were to drink every time someone says it during this film.  Hell, you'd get drunk if you did it while watching the trailer.

That's going to be released in a theater?  Don't they need all sorts of clearances direct from Lucas to have, for instance, the Lego reenactments of scenes (presumably cheaper than the real clips)?  Or all the people in costumes?

I like the idea of this in theory, but the fact that "George Lucas raped my childhood" is a reoccurring phrase suggest that they're taking the wrong approach.  If anything, that will simply vindicate Lucas' case against bitter fans who wanted to force him to make the new movies for them rather than for himself.

I think that a sly documentarian (who should, first off, be someone who isn't quite so emotionally invested in STAR WARS) would've done better to paint a portrait of Lucas as someone who is more obsessed with being a businessman than an artist (which is certainly not a crime), but who has fashioned a business model which continues to make him increasingly wealthy despite releasing product in a manner which shows transparently open contempt for his most loyal and vocal fans.

I'm sure that Lucasfilm's legal department would propose a nasty SLAPP suit for defamation of character, but that's the documentary that would've had some real teeth as opposed to what sounds like a fanboy temper tantrum.

I doubt it.  Unless Lucas is secretly behind it.  Which isn't likely, but would be really funny.

EDIT:  Oh, they're still accepting submissions, up until Sept. 30th.  So, I'm guessing they're not as close to completion as I thought they were.  More on the production: http://www.peoplevsgeorge.com/

Everyone in this movie is a whiny baby.

Oh boo hoo hoo, I liked his earlier movies but I don't like his newer movies. Suck it up.

Anybody who uses the phrase "George Lucas raped my childhood" without irony deserves to be beaten up by Chewbacca. I've already registered my distaste for the AICN-popularized use of the "such-and-such raped my childhood/eyes/memories", and honestly, if your life is THAT badly impacted by a poorly-made prequel, you really need to take up knitting.

My submission to them was going to be in defense of Lucas.  I figured as one of the four people on the planet who actually enjoyed the prequels (but haven't rewatched them since.... coincidence?) that I should speak up.  But alas, I didn't.

As long as the film isn't one-sided, (apart form the title, the doc seems to look at both sides), I'm interested in seeing this. If it's just a hate-fest, I'll pass, that's what the Internets are for.

I just did an interview for this doc. Sat down with the filmmakers and two cameras in my face for about 4 hours. Based on discussions and the tone of the interview, it's going to be a really really compelling watch for star wars fans and non alike. It's far from a hatefest. The movie (from what I can see/said in my portion of it) is really about the balance of Love-Hate that modern day SW fans have for Lucas.

Look for it (and my bits, I guess) in the near future.

p.s Oh, and the "rape" comes up, but I try and diffuse the term/saying to the best of my ability. Cause yeah, it's ridiculous.

Thats cool, but the movie probably wont include your entire 4 hour interview. So, really nothing is stopping them from just using the bits where people are saying they hate the prequels. Just because you were asked balanced questions, doesnt necessarily mean they will be making a balanced movie. I think the title is a pretty good indicator as to what their angle is.

agreed on all fronts, but after spending that much time with the filmmakers I really do believe they are trying to make a balanced film. Yes, prequel hate comes up  a lot but as does the love we all originally felt for 4,5,6/indy etc. I can't see this being a "hatchet" film. I think peoples reaction towards it is so strong because incredibly its the first SW doc that isn't entirely a lucas approved love-fest. George will hate it, but George hates (fears) all criticism and therein lies one of the (imo) major issues with George 2.0. I certainly felt passionate on the subject and never once like I was just "bitching" about the prequels.

I don't know. Either way, i think it'll make for an interesting watch.

Four hours talking about Star Wars? I can barely talk about it for 10 minutes these days.
