He's not going to be the lead of the show, just the boss of the company.

It's been announced that they've closed the Spader deal, it's official. And apparently when the show starts again in the fall his character will already be CEO, so no watching his meteoric rise, at least not as anything but a flashback.

Yeah, he's taking Kathy Bates's job.

What's wrong with that? It makes sense.

It makes sense for two people to have another baby. It doesn't make sense for two TV characters to do it when I can't think of a single way having the first one benefitted the series.

I hope it's as good as when the Baby Blues parents had another baby.

I like that the baby has become a fact, but not a fixture, in the show. That's how it is when people at offices have kids; you are all into it for them when it happens, but then they stop being a part of what people talk about there. I think they have used it well and "realistically," all things considered.

But major developments like this should serve the show in some way, and this doesn't. I could understand doing it once (because what else did they have left to do with Jim and Pam?), but having Pam be pregnant again, the office being too intrusive again, her giving birth again...I just don't see how this benefits the show, other than not having to hide Jenna Fischer behind a desk for a year.

It gives Jim a reason to take the manager job.

' [Catherine] Tate's character, Nellie Bertram, appeared in last season's finale to interview for Michael Scott's former position. She returns [in the second half of the current season] as a "corporate special projects manager, and her relationship with Robert California will be far from professional," executive producer Paul Lieberstein said. I might be excited about that had she been even a tiny bit funny in the finale. What, was Jim Carrey too busy?!?

I think Robert California is the best character on TV right now. My favorite OFFICE character of all time.
