He also gave money to his brother.

Not that I'm saying that turned out well or anything, or it was for the right reason.

Again, purely self-interest in that case.

Roger is the one I'd approach for a loan.  He's the easiest mark in Manhattan!  (Although Lane might have had to put on a tight dress first)

My favorite part of this week's episode was when they started to make it seem like Ken was going to squeeze Roger for some cash like everyone else has, then he does the (slightly) more honorable thing. I particularly liked his "I don't want to be partner, I see what goes into it" or whatever line. He's too nice for that world, something terrible's going to happen to him.

How many dead bodies does Pete have to deal with in that office?

This was another season that started off kind of shaky but ended so well that I barely remember that.

I love that Don is STILL a dick to Peggy in ways he has no idea about. There are people like that, who if they've helped you at the beginning of your career, they feel they own you and your future success and efforts in perpetuity.

I'm a few episodes behind so I'm not going to read the rest of the thread just yet, but I just have to say how much I love Lane. I hope they do a spinoff about Lane in London after this run is over. Maybe he could leave his wife and call it Lovers Lane.

Yeah, wouldn't this be something?

I just watched the last 2 episodes then came here to to read the last 2 weeks of posts.  It's pretty funny reading the posts from last week after having watched this weeks episode.

This was another season that started off kind of shaky but ended so well that I barely remember that.

I'm with you 100%.  I wasn't "feeling" is at the beginning, but shit did it all pay off.

I've always said, you can't judge this show week by week.  You have to see the whole season and judge it as a whole.  The whole is much greater then the sum of the parts.

So with death playing such a big role in the premiere, does anyone else get the feeling that the long road to the finale may have actually started last night?

I rewatched season five a few weeks ago, and they forshadowed the living hell out of Lane's death starting all the way back in the season opener. I couldn't help but remember that when Roger shouted "This is MY FUNERAL!" or whatever at his mother's wake.

I felt the premier had a strong SOPRANOS vibe to it.  For some reason I kept thinking about the SOPRANOS episode when Tony was in a coma and had the imaginary life in sales(?).
Something about the whole episode didn't feel "real".  Like Don was having a fever dream or something.

Well, Wiener definitely loves him some fever dreams.

Something about him meeting the army kid, and especially how the lighter kept coming back and finally the picture from Hawaii, made me think about maybe Don embracing Dick Whitman again. Like he spent a great deal of his adult life getting away from that and reinventing himself over and over again, and especially his "I don't want to keep doing this" line to Linda Cardellini gave me a "I am what I am and that's all that I am" vibe.

I thought a one sentence review for the premiere and it sounded like a meh New Yorker cartoon caption.

"It was great. So depressing!"

I guess the cartoon would be two bears waterskiing.

The mid-60's flux makes everyone act like a fucking asshole. I predict Benson is going to prove to be the real Satan.

Well, reviews are like gossamer and one doesn't dissect gossamer.
