I don't think "hopeful" is the same thing as having the message that hope is important.
For instance, the William Shatner movie that everybody should see is 'The Intruder', aka 'I Hate Your Guts', in which he's a racist. And he never recants his racist beliefs, but the message of the movie is still that racism is bad. In the same way, the characters in 'The Mist' give up hope, but the ultimate message of the movie is that you shouldn't give up hope.

I don't think 'Walking Dead' has taken an explicit position regarding hope as of yet. But I read Kirkman in the trades, so DON'T SPOIL IT FOR ME if that's changed.

Everyone I know loves The Walking Dead but it doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm willing to give it a shot but for someone whose not into zombies is it one of those books that takes time to get good or is it rise above it's genre immediately? I still think there's no way it can be better than Everybody's Dead.

The book isnt even really about zombies. Its more about what happens to people when society breaks down. Give it a shot.

Zombie Bill Murray might be a bit spoiled. I'm not loving the idea of it, because it means Bill Murray was murdered and that is not a good thing AT ALL. I am actually more offended that you don't listen to Party Truck, though, cause I feel like this was mentioned on there.

I don't understand the point of a Bill Murray zombie. If he acts like a zombie, then the benefit of Bill Murray as a performer seems pretty much lost (though he can do a lot with just his eyes), and if he acts like Bill Murray, that's hardly zombie-like.
But I'm always intrigued by good actors playing zombies; Billy Connolly was the only thing I liked about 'Fido', but I liked him an awful lot.
