Really? No interest in a SPIDER-MAN musical? It could be so cool.
Not really. I thought a BATMAN musical would be cool if they embraced the 60s show type camp, but after hearing Steinman's songs, I'm glad that shit didn't work. I don't know... there's something about super heroes that, to me, doesn't translate to Broadway. This Spiderman idea, I was really only sold on because of my blind love of Julie Taymor. She has an ability (flaws and all) of making things work that I normally would think would have a chance (case in point: THE LION KING). I love Broadway shows, but I'm always thrown off by things like this, where it's "take already proven property, and translate it to Broadway." It can be done brilliantly (WICKED, HAIRSPRAY), but the road is littered with failed corpses of ideas like that. I love it when it works, and am gladly last to the party on these things. I was hoping that Spiderman woulda been one of those instances. But it feels really desperate right now to the point of no return, right? Like, they can't recoup this, can they?
