Oh and that big pumpkin head Rosie.

Are you talking about her old talk show, or her spot on "The View"?

Her first talk show was a big hit- and she walked away when it still had good ratings.

I'm guessing he was asked to leave.

If you go outside of talk shows Seinfeld and Ted Danson left millions upon millions on the table.

Also, Oprah.

Jack Paar and Steve Allen.

I still love Parr for quiting mid show because of the censors, great stuff. I know he came back a few weeks later but still to have the balls to just say fuck it there's gotta be a better way to make a living in the middle of the show is so awesome!

Both Paar and Allen left The Tonight Show to do 1 hour prime time weekly shows.  Neither did well, kinda foreshadowing Leno's attempt at prime time.

Yeah but I think both had a better chance since both their shows were just on once a week instead of five nights a week.

Greg Kinnear, no? And famously (and unwisely) McLean Stevenson. Also whashisname, the redhead guy from NYPD BLUE who became a terrible overactor on another show years later.

I thought we were just talking talk show hosts, because there are tons of actors that left their shows on their own.

Does Kinnear count? He had a solid gig at that SOUP show for as long as he wanted. It isn't a talk show, per se, but it is still a "your own name/personality host" gig.

I was just thinking, in the case of Seinfeld and Danson, they were kind of the leaders of the shows and chose all on their own to call it quits, knowing it would mean the end of the show.  A Stevenson or a Shelly Long is a different thing.
