I forgot Lando had a blue cape, rock.

A character in the prequels who was actually funny would be appreciated, sure.  But they DID attempt to have light moments, they were just so wooden and crappy they weren't pulled off.   I am kinda scared to think how Han would have been written now.

Like Chris Pine's Kirk, I reckon.

edit:  Oh, you probably meant written by Lucas now.  Nevermind.

I'll tell you the trouble with the prequels. Robes.

Everyone had frigging giant robes on at all times. The Jedi, the senators, all the people on Tatooine, the Neimoidians, the gungans, all the royal people on Naboo, even the goddamn fighter pilots. WHAT THE FUCKLES

I suggest someone should start a script for "LANDO" and cast Jaden Smith for the role. I've always wanted to know about the spice mines of Kessel and how Han won the Falcon.

edit* Has there ever been a LANDO comic or story/book based on the character?

Didn't Han just win the Falcon in a game of space cards or something?

Basically.  I skimmed through a wiki entry for the Falcon a couple weeks ago and it seems that the SW novels have given it a Threepio-esque back story, woven in and around the history of the Rebellion for decades before it gets to Han -- IIRC only a few months before the action in A New Hope.     Here I had always assumed there were years worth of Smugglin' Buddies adventures with Han and Chewie and the Falcon, but nope, it apparently went:  win ship, botch delivery for Jabba, give flying old man and kid a lift,  one right after the other.  Han's a blip to that ship.  Bummer.

Also, Lucas surrounded himself with a bunch of gibbering idiots this time around.

Rick McCallum is no Gary Kurtz
Doug Chiang is no Ralph McQuarrie
Teryl Whitlach is no Phil Tippett
Ian Whathisname is no Joe Johnston, etc, etc

There's like two good ship designs in the whole prequel trilogy and about one alien design that isn't complete bantha shit.

STAR WARS and EMPIRE are basically lightning in bottle. They are insanely perfect on a level that is almost impossible to aim for on a movie and hit it, even if you know what you're doing. It's just magic, that's why it pains people so much to see Lucas tweaking it. Even the first few edits of STAR WARS were disasters, that only came together after being given more time, which just goes to show you how delicate something like that is.

Lucas is unique now - a billionaire filmmaker with complete control over his creations, who funds his own movies. The rules don't apply, he can just make up any old shit and call it done. That's more likely why the prequels don't seem like movies from this universe, because George Lucas is insanely talented as a creator, but the rigorous process isn't there like there was for the original trilogy.

Sabacc. You can play a "predecessor" of it in KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC.

I agree with everything here. And add, though, that all those less-talented yes-men were chosen because they were yes-men.

Ha, yeah, I saw that this morning.

Lucas seems to be really irritated by the fans in recent years. I guess I can't blame him, as from his perspective he's absolutely correct in everything he does and everyone else has been giving him shit constantly since 1997.

I will put out there that I was heavily (and literally!) invested in pre-loving the prequels. I bought EVERY Voice-tech-chip action figure and every giant creature/vehicle before the movie came out, to make up for never having more than a handful of figures as a kid.

I still have a mint-in-box Darth Maul from the time. I'm still waiting on it to be worth anything.

I also have all those Pepsi can tie-ins, in this big black carrying case specially designed for them. Also worthless. Though sort of cool, I guess:

I have no memory of how I got it. It's like it materialized in my bedroom one day when I was 14.

I don't understand why you would show that to anybody.
