I would've said Edmure Tully was his cousin.

I laughed hard at "Fleabottom".

It doesn't help that they've changed the name of some characters.  I get why they had to change "Asha Greyjoy" to Yara, b/c Osha the wildling was so prominent in season 1.  And I get now why they changed Robb's wife's name & background...but it still ups the confusion.

ALSO, did you guys know that the show mispronounces "Khaleesi"?  It's supposed to be KHALeesi, not KhaLEEsi, as it is an extension of "Khal" (Drogo, etc.).

I think we all know what it is an extension of, but are you sure they are pronouncing it wrong? Martin is pretty heavily involved with the series, and I think he'd chime in if it were wrong.

By comparison, we don't emphasize the MAN in woman.

I'm just asking, because having not read the books, I dont know whether or not there is a pronounciation key included in an appendix (Like LOTR).

There's only like twelve words of Dothraki in the books, if that.  They hired a linguistics expert to create the rest of the language (as well as high Valyrian) for the show.  Martin actually consults with him for the books now.

He was trying to get them to pronounce it "KHAH-lay-see".  [Lay, not lee.]  Can you imagine the nerd revolts if it had not been pronounced as it was spelled?

You're right, but I still think it's sweet that he cares so much about it.  He did a great job on both languages.  They don't mention it in that article, but he's also the one that came up with the whole "Dothraki have no word for 'thank you'" thing.

Also, since the whole GIF/JIF thing, original intent has meant less and less to me.

I believe in it in art (meaning I want Bone in black and white but latter-day Hate in color, and I want the original cuts of Chaplin movies not the cuts he did later in life), but not in language.  In this case, I will cheat the definition and define Dothraki as an evolving language rather than a piece of art.

And to be fair, none of the characters we hear saying the word anymore are native Dothraki speakers.

You guys are stretching!  The native Dothraki (when they were featured) said it the same way.

It's okay, though, it sounds better when spoken.  They haven't made a big deal about all the medieval-esque spellings and pronunciations from the book, either.  I think they use "maester" once in a blue moon, but by and large they seem to just avoid it.

It was great in that last ep, though.
