I haven't seen it, but you are the first person I've ever heard say anything good about Caprica.

It is.  The trailer is even edited and tagged the same way.

The feel-bad show of the season.  Anyway, yeah looks awesome.

Let me add to the CAPRICA love.  It's way different but that was sort of the point, wasn't it?

cool, maybe I'll check out Caprica, not that I've heard something other then "it sucks".

I'd give Caprica a solid B, whereas the first two seasons of BSG were As, the third season was a B+, and the final season was a B-.

I say that because I'm not trying to give it a ringing endorsement or anything, but I thought the show did a decent job of being a prequel to BSG without trying to explain every little thing from that show. The writers had enough respect for the show to let it stand on its own and be its own thing, which I liked, but that may have annoyed BSG fans.

Well, if they make it a Web series, they can make them like five minutes long, correct?

With the success of DOWNTON ABBEY, I wonder if PBS is now a viable alternate route?

Probably different standards of quality. You can get away with cheaper special effects on a web series than you can something on TV.

That's kind of my point.  Question:  If they cheaped out on the effects but had a good show... would people care?  I'm seriously asking.  I'm not sure but I don't think people would care.  People just want more Battlestar.  Put guys in suits, you don't need CG Cylons.
People watched The Next Generation, it had crappy FX (especially at the beginning).  I know people are used to a higher standard now, but is it NECESSARY?  Tons of people watch those Mega vs Gigantic B-movies that Sci-Fi puts on and shit they have bad FX.

People (myself included) love DR. HORRIBLE, and it has short episodes and very primitive special effects. Quality is quality - if it's good enough, I think people will find it.

On the subject of THE NEXT GENERATION - for the Blu-ray release, they've gone back to the original elements and cleaned up all the original special effects. The difference is pretty staggering. Even the shitty season 1 effects (at least in the pilot, which is on the sampler disc) look pretty great once they've been properly cleaned up and recomposed.

Syfy was also going to do this with FARSCAPE. Still waiting on that one.
