Also, River Song is annoying. He always casts hot actresses and then the one woman who's supposed to be the hottest woman ever is Alex Kingston?
You just out-crazied your own crazy "Davies over Moffat" preference.

Did they ever say shes supposed to be the hottest woman ever? I just rewatched the Eccleston-recent series and dont remember them ever even implying that.

As far as the whole Davie over Moffat thing, I think Moffat is a better writer, but i prefer the Davies run.

Yeah, I don't know where hottest ever came from (not that she's bad-looking). I think she's a really great choice for a character that's meant to be the one person who can keep up with and intrigue The Doctor.

Also, I have no idea how anyone can prefer Davies over Moffat.

I just met her at a con in Miami and she was really nice and taller than she appears on TV. I guess because they originally cast her opposite David Tennant.

Tennant gives me affection for the Davies era, but Moffat is a betterer writer than Davies when compared to Tennant being better than Smith.

To me the show had a more epic feel to it during the Davies era than it does now. However, I totally agree that Moffat is the better writer. My favorite episodes during the Davies era were written by him.

I'm in your boat as well as I prefer Davies to Moffat, I like them both but I liked Davies seasons better. It might be because I like Tennant more, who knows? Although I like Torchwood a lot and still think Children of Earth is one of the best things to be put on television.

New season looks good though, love the idea of an old west episode, too bad it's Amy and Rorys last season. I've really grown to like Rory, so much so he may be my favorite current character. I also like the mention of the Master, wouldn't mind seeing him show up again.

Small question though, in the trailer it's assumed The Doctor killed all the Daleks but years ago when Clone Doctor did that The Doctor bitched him out for genocide. Why the change in attitude, just because he's a "new" Doctor? I know, trivial, just wondering.

Ugh, I couldn't get into Torchwood. I pretty desperately wanted to, too.

Between the first two series there are about 10 good ones.

--The Pilot
--The last three or four of series one, from when the ol' timey people in the plane show up to the end
--Episode 1, Series 2 is maybe the best episode they ever did.
--The last two of series 2, I believe, were pretty okay.

The rest range from "Eh" to "abysmal."

Children of Earth, however, is one of the SINGLE BEST THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN ON TELEVISION. It's what Torchwood SHOULD have been. It was edgy, intense and morally VERY questionable. It didn't rely on "Look! We're cursing/doing sex at each other! See how mature we are!" but wound up being legitimately mature and tense. Also, every episode feels like a different genre, which is great (Action movie, political thriller, sci-fi, etc). Honestly, you could probably watch the pilot, episode 1 of series two, and then go straight to Children of Earth and not really be lost.

Just watched the first episode of Season/Series 7, Asylum of the Daleks. Pretty good episode and a nice start to the new season. Spoilers for the episode...

I really liked the Daleks asking The Doctor for help, a nice little twist on things. I HATED Amy and Rory being divorced though, I thought though that would lead to more of a story arc but it was wrapped up in one episode. I kinda called the twist ending but it was still nice and made sense. Some heart in this episode too which is always nice to see. If you guys didn't know the girl in the episode who ended up being a Dalek is the actress that will be the new companion (I think it'll be a different character, maybe a connection with this character. They did the same thing with Martha Jones in the past) and while she's cute I really am not sure about her taking over after Amy and Rory leave. I mean she was ok in the episode but as a full time companion starting Christmas, I dunno. Eh it may just be me as Rory and Amy are my favorite companions and I don't want them to go.

SPOILERS ABOUND

Yeah, that was a pretty slick trick Moffat and company pulled by having her be the fucking STAR OF AN EPISODE months before she was supposed to make her debut. Also, turns out I'm in to Jenna Louise Coleman. Who know. #Ilikesmarthipsterygirls

Solid debut, I felt.  I liked the way Moffatt used the Daleks in this one.  He actually gave them back some of their creepiness, especially when some of the decrepit ones started coming back to life.  And I doubt the whole Amy-Rory divorce thing is totally wrapped up.  I'm thinking that it could figure into the upcoming episodes in some way.  I didn't have a problem with them using Coleman in the episode.  I thought she was really effective in her part, so I'm interested to see how she'll be used as a companion.

Is there a summary post within this post that lays out in a semi-definitive way, where to start?

Josh - just watch 'Blink'.  Every other answer is going to be really complicated, but *everybody* likes 'Blink'.
