You should pitch WWE Films a Shockmaster comedy...

Speaking of which, did you bros hear they're doing a LEPRECHAUN prequel under WWE Films with Hornswaggle (he's a wrestler) as the Leprechaun...?

I kind of figured it to happen eventually...  When you play a Leprechaun on TV for six years for a company with a shitty film division, I'm shocked it didn't happen sooner.

Nothing is more rational than weird Derick's 13 year old nerd anger. You guys are like the Star Trek nerds crying about Kirk's dad dying in the reboot.

They should definitely change one of the five things that make Spider-Man Spider-Man.

I think they have to do the Uncle Ben thing (it's as part of his origin as getting bitten by a spider) but they obviously shouldn't structure it like the first movie, building to it.  They have to do a new spin on it.  I'm pretty sure they're going to, it's not a simple retelling of what we've seen before, but I could be wrong.

Truth be told, I'd be fine with them just starting with Uncle Ben long-dead.  And also is Kirk's dad dying what gave Kirk his space powers?  Because thank God he did.

Most people don't know or care about those five things beyond that they've already seen them done in one movie. They can afford to change some of them to something else. There are FIVE OF THEM.

In the show Kirk enlisted in star fleet cause his Dad wanted him to, in the reboot they thought of a different reason. Nerds freaked out but normals enjoyed it. There is no difference here other than you like Spiderman more. You're using the same fanboy muscle.

I definitely agree that things should be different, it's dumb to do the origin and filmmakers should put their own spin on things but that seems like a no win scenario. If you change that, whatever you're changing it with better be a hell of a lot better than what it originally was, and even then, you're going to get so much shit for it that it probably won't matter if it's good or not. So you won't even get the credit if it's phenomenally well done. If they had a way better idea, they should do it. But they just have to go through the motions of what works. They're kind of fucked that they're doing the origin again.

It's like the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake where so much of it was a mystery of whether Freddy actually did hurt those kids, and everyone already knew he did so it was painfully boring to go through the mystery. The only way out of it would have been if the parents got it wrong and Freddy is killing the kids out of revenge for being wrongfully punished. But they didn't. I agree, Uncle Ben's part in this will probably be boring. And the mystery of Peter's parents is going to be boring too. Yeesh, I am not looking forward to this sorta.

Just watched that Spidey cartoon. Man, it's really fun. And they got JK as Jameson.  Awesome.

I agree 100% with all of this.  I was really hoping they'd go with Freddy being wrongfully killed and haunting Elm Street out of revenge, but then they didn't and the unoriginality of that made it that much worse.

It's a decent analogy with regard to Spidey, too.  Although I'm willing to overlook a lot of plot tweaking because I get the sense they did Spidey/Pete's characterizations and dynamics better this time around. Or at least I'm hoping they did?

I've been thinking about this Uncle Ben thing, and they could absolutely do it if they had a reason.  But it can't be an arbitrary "let's keep him alive".  If there was a cool story around it, it's okay.

Upon having thought that, I read LpF's "Freddy shouldn't be a child molester" post and I thought "why change that just to make it different" so I'm back at square one.

Yeah that's basically what I meant to say about Uncle Ben. It could be a bad or good idea, but I think people should be open to anything. Especially if we are going to get new takes every 10 years. I just think it's going to be so awkward to go through that same motion again. But to be honest it didn't occur to me that not killing Uncle Ben might be a good idea until they cast Martin Sheen because I want to see him in it more. If they cast someone else who was boring I'd probably be fine with him just dying again.

I thought Freddy being murdered after falsely being accused of being a child molester was a pretty cool idea. Since it would give him an actual non-arbitrary reason for killing the teenagers.  I think that's more interesting than Freddy being born evil. But it ended up just making me bored and annoyed when they chickened out.

Wasn't he born of a serial killer and a nun?

His nun mother was raped by a "100 maniacs" in the original ones. Which is too stupid to be scary.

I did always enjoy the repeated use of the phrase "The bastard son of a hundred maniacs" throughout the series, though.

I have only seen the first A Nightmare on Elm Street and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. At my age am I honestly missing anything?

Not really. Dream Warriors, Dream Master, and Dream Child are kind of fun though. You could just watch Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. It's awesome. Although it's almost as long as watching the movies, but more entertaining.
