Worse than when Joey finds his "hand twin"?

That's certainly the worst plotline, and the biggest waste of Thomas Lennon ever, but the rest of that episode had some funny stuff in it, I think.

"Emotional prosperity"?[/quote

Wow, not what I meant to type.  But now that I've had a day to think about it, what I should've said then was that the popularity of Friends was part of the overall "irrational exuberance" of the 90s.

And Chi's right: I still wind up watching 3 or 4 hours of RAYMOND a week because they're so damn good.

I agree that it looks like the worst, most generic sitcom imaginable at a passing glance, but it truly is a brilliant show. It does for family sitcoms what NEWSRADIO did for workplace sitcoms, with impeccable writing and a perfect cast (although Heaton's character does become an unbearable shrew as the series progresses). I don't think I've ever seen a bad episode of that show, and I can't even say that about SEINFELD.

I always assumed everybody loved it...

*crickets*

I think the shows' alright.  But it's nothing that I seek out.  If it's on and nothing else is, I'll watch it... but that's about it.

I think this show, at times, was a lot better than people really think. It's not the best comedy ever (that would be Arrested Development) but it was pretty good for a mainstream comedy. I think the quality was always the inverse of how "whacky" the Gellars were acting.

Also it was fairly progressive as well as the least dysfunctional relationship on the show was Carol and Susan's. They managed to have a successful marriage where they brought up their son pretty handily despite the machinations of his lunatic father.

I'm on board for the "Raymond" love. The show is consistently great, and in much the same way that people like to remember Seinfeld, it's startling how unlikable most of the characters are. Or maybe it was for me, just because before I started watching it, I assumed it was just a cookie-cutter everyone-loves-each-other sitcom. It's got some real bite for a CBS family show.

Hey, the "Shark Porn" episode was on TV last night.
I watched it!

Jesus Christ...

Sorry, but I see absolutely no way Monica would be so willing to jump to that conclusion, at odds with the years of development so far. She made Joey seem smart.

The stuff with Lisa Kudrow and Paul Rudd wasn't bad though. Then again, they're both brilliant.

I know, right? It seems like a bad spec some jackass submitted that somehow made it to air. Really terrible. Fascinatingly bad.

I haven't seen it in awhile, but I don't remember what the Rudd and Kudrow stuff is?

They were a couple during the final season. I think they got married during the 3rd last episode, but the episode was awful because they made Monica the wedding planner and she "over-organized" things in her "hilarious" way.

Oh Spade, don't put Farley in charge of the bees!

I liked Rudd on FRIENDS, because he always seemed like he was astounded by how much stupidity was going on around him.
