So says the rumor. I don't think it's that bad a thing, really.

Will Smith as Captain America works.  Just so long as the movie doesn't suck, anyway.

Too bad they can't get Will Smith of the 90s to come in and play Steve Rogers pre-serum...

Say WHAT?

Incidentally, the point was made elsewhere that a black Steve Rogers couldn't be such a rallying figure for America in the climate it was in at the time.  I disagree, however; look at Joe Louis.

True, but even Joe Louis would not have been able to lead very many soldiers into battle; the military was segregated until at least 1948, and less than 10% of the soldiers in the entire war were black (not sure, precisely, how it falls, Europe vs Asia).

Something I said on another board I just saw this posted:

"Will Smith's a great actor. Plus you have the added angle of a black man who fought in World War II and was frozen for 60 years, suddenly waking up in a country where blacks are (at least on the surface) equal to whites, where a black man could possibly be our next president. Sounds like an interesting idea to me."

So they fudge the rules because they've got a Super Soldier who's black.  They can address that, even.  Steve Rogers was the best candidate, and they "make do."

Military Scientist: He's the best candidate, period.
Joint Chief: Hmm...really?
Military Scientist: Yessir.
Joint Chief: Then do it.
Lower-ranking Official: But sir, he won't be able to lead white soldiers!
Joint Chief: Blast the rules!  Do it, Dr. Military Scientist Guy!

Or they could just have him be a one-man unit.

Brian, while you're here, can you give LpF and Jew Askew their own fan-fic forum?

What, are they adapting Truth? Because they should, Truth was great.

No, no, this won't do. During the 1940s, the only man who could conceivably inspire American soldiers to fight against the Nazi fiends was a blond haired, blue eyed superman enhanced by science.

In point of fact, I believe Captain America was conceived to push public opinion towards war; we weren't fighting the Nazis for almost a year after his conception.
