They posted the trailer to Blues Brothers 2000 over on AICN today in an article about GB3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ESdH-CRUAEI'm pretty sure I had blocked all memories of that movie from my mind until today. God, that's an awful trailer.

I've never actually seen BLUES BROTHERS 2000 - is it really that bad?
Just going off of the trailer, it does seem to have the basic elements of the first movie - musical numbers, ridiculous car chases, etc. I know there's no Belushi, but my love for Goodman runs deep so I don't think that would bother me at all. There's a kid, yes - is he the kiss of death?
Is it too much of a rehash, maybe? It seems to be pretty universally hated.

The kid is bad but that's the least of it's problems. It's horrible all around. Save the talent involved, it looks and feels like a straight to video knock off.

I've never actually seen BLUES BROTHERS 2000 - is it really that bad? At one point, Erykah Badu turns them into dancin' zombies. It's like a routine out of that Beetlejuice theme park show.

Also she turns rednecks into rats with morphing special effects that would have been been unacceptable in BLUES BROTHERS 1981.

I know. It's one of those movies I've never gotten around to seeing simply because no one's ever forced me to sit down and watch it.

They have a Blues Brothers theme park show too. No zombies, though. Beetlejuice should crash it though, because his show is long gone. His character still walks around, however.

The last time I watched Blues Brothers 2000, I pretended it was just a string of Blues Brothers et al music videos and ignored the plot. It was...tolerable. Mostly because the music is that damned good.

It's kind of sad that the final nail is in the coffin now. And that picture from that awards show mocks us so cruelly.
I think it should be rebooted with new, young actors, but if it does end up being a sequel (which it kind of has to be, since Aykroyd would have to literally be dead to not appear in it), they should just make Ray alone the mentor to a new crew and don't bother bringing back anyone else. Make it like EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS, with Ray instead of Egon. Having all the old guys except Murray in it would be much sadder to me (plus I'd have trouble accepting the idea of a fat Egon, anyway). But I'm sort of hoping that Murray being out of the equation for good means the studio won't want to bother and the whole thing will just go away.

That was kinda my idea. The originals were just in it for the first twenty pages and then Ray mentored the team. That said, I think they should reboot that shit. REBOOT IT.
