I'm packing up my typewriter, moving the LA and changing my name to Ethen Coen.

Whenever I see one of the "fake Coen's" names on a movie I always think of this.

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3157224/bill-murray-officially-out-of-ghostbusters-3-peter-venkman-not-in-the-script/

Venkman's not in the new script that's being written.

Well, if they're serious about making a third one, this is probably the only way it can get done.

Now that he's officially out, GB3 can join the last season of Scrubs, this upcoming season of Community and Crystal Skull as things I can just pretend never existed.

I just want closure and merchandise at this point. Or any point.

What closure could you possibly need that you didn't already get from the "Thank You Ghostbusters" ceremony at Liberty Island?

If they don't have Murray, they should have a whole new team.  No passing of the torch.  Could be the same universe, whatever, or a reboot.  But it's just not the original GHOSTBUSTERS without Venkman.

Closure to this will they/won't they about a sequel. It's time for people to ask Aykroyd about MY GIRL 3 at his vodka signings.

I'm with you, but Aykroyd's continued existence rules that out. But if it were only Ray as the mentor, I'd be better with it. I don't want Egon in the movie either if Venkman isn't. Maybe throw Winston in there, just because I like Ernie Hudson and I assume he probably really, really wants to do it. That would also make some sense, since he and Ray were the only two still trying to squeeze a few bucks out of the Ghostbusters name in II.

But I'm kind of turning on Murray now. I was on his side when the script was written by the YEAR ONE guys, on account of those guys wrote YEAR ONE, but now that there's a new writer and a new script being written, he can't wait and see how it shapes up? I wish it weren't such an imposition for him to do something for his old buddies and his fans. It's not like he can't jump right into the next Wes Anderson movie or some boring Oscar-bait thing immediately afterward to cleanse his palate.

Maybe he just doesn't want to do a Ghostbusters.

I think Murray needs to want to do this movie a little more, Aykroyd a lot less, and somewhere in the middle, I don't know.

Based on that Aykroyd quote, Murray hasn't refused to consider the next script. (He probably doesn't even know there is a new writer yet.)  Rather, Aykroyd has asked for a script that doesn't require Murray's consideration.   He's been cut from the equation.

Murray's flip flopping is pretty mind blowin though. One day it's no. The next he's in the video game. One day he's bashing the concept and the next he's showing up to an awards show in full Ghostbusters gear. He's the biggest tease of all time.

And he said "we're going to take another try" on Letterman like a month or so ago. Head games!

Not to mention, zombieland, showing up in Ghostbusters garb at that awards show and doing the game, etc. I think he'd be up for it if the script was good.
