I wonder if Bruno considered asking Kevin to direct.
Maybe he'll bring back the Warlock for a cameo. He could be the new Al Powell.

Would Bruce not have heard what Kevin had to say about him in recent months?

My remark was tongue in cheek.

I did think for a second that if Kevin had better success in wrangling Bruce in Cop Out that he could have had a shot at Die Hard. But no, it wouldn't have happened. A) kevin hasnt shown that he could do anything close to the action that a Die Hard movie requires and B) he's said that he was scared to take on The Green Hornet. Nothing as really changed since then that would make him feel comfortable with Die Hard.

Why does McClane need a partner these days? He had Carl Winslow on the ground in the first two, but I certainly wouldn't say he was his partner throughout the movies. It worked for 3 because of the chemistry between the actors, but I felt like the computer geek (among other things) really sank the fourth one. I guess they're thinking there's only two types of people who want to see these movies: hardcore old-school action fans and general moviegoers who will basically see anything if it has a famous person in it, and I guess there's obviously more of them than there are of us.
I will say, most of 4 felt like MY DAD, THE COP. Even though McClane was doing outrageously superhuman things, he ended up being just an old grump who has to deal with the cool hacker throughout the movie.

Making the stakes/canvas even bigger and partnering McClane up yet again (especially with more young people) is the exact wrong thing to do with DIE HARD. But at least they're hiring the idiot that made MAX PAYNE. That should help matters.

I'm fine with the locale, it's the director that scares me.

I hope he gets to keep doing original stuff but Cornish would be pretty great. Anyone but Payne dude.
