I'm not really upset by this. I guess thats the kind of movie he's not too bad at. It cant be worse than 3.

I have no idea what BHC is, but now I'm worried.
EDIT: Oh wow, BEVERLY HILLS COP. Well, he can't do much damage to the franchise as it's already pretty sorry. But, yeah, wow, this guy jumps from franchise to franchise, huh?

For the first time I can say this honestly about a sequel...
It can't be worse than the last one.
It really can't. That movie was awful. I mean, besides DEER WOMAN which I really really loved (partially due to my undying love for "Dream On"'s Brian Benben), this cat hasn't done anything fantastic since COMING TO AMERICA (I love INNOCENT BLOOD, but it's not anything great). And that was '88. So, I can't worry about Ratner doing anything bad. To be honest.... I think he's a prime choice to cut a Murphy flick. I would be more concerned of who's writing the script.

This is the best movie news I've heard attached to Eddie Murphy since 'Bowfinger', and the best movie news featuring Brett Ratner ever.

I think if anyone can top Beverly Hills Cop 3's badness it's Ratner.

this cat hasn't done anything fantastic since COMING TO AMERICA I really did like him in 'Dreamgirls'. But Ratner might be able to drag out the Murphy that Murphy left behind after 'Coming To America'.

Wait, what about Ratner's past work makes you think he'll be able to drag anything out of anyone.

I think if anyone can top Beverly Hills Cop 3's badness it's Ratner. You know the original is his favorite movie ever? I'm sure he's going to be really personally invested in this movie. I'm not sure whether that's to the movie's benefit or detriment, but I think this is the most I ever could've been interested in BHC4.

Wait, what about Ratner's past work makes you think he'll be able to drag anything out of anyone. Their collective box office means he would have the power to push Murphy to go back to rated R comedy. At that point, he just has to get out of the way.

Eddie Murphy has wanted to make it R rated from the beginning.
And also, it's not a question of getting out of Eddie's way. Gotta be more than that.

I just mean, Murphy has made the conscious choice to do more family oriented stuff and shied away from his previous image, like "Raw" and all that. But if Ratner is really passionate about old-school Eddie Murphy (which he always says he is), and can drum up that spirit in him, get him to really commit to the idea of that old type of comedy, that's really the only way I could ever see 'Beverly Hills Cop 4' being any good. Ratner is a director who really loves the original, and is powerful enough in Hollywood (shudder) to say "I'm not going to make this until we can really go back to that." So, yeah, it wouldn't be "Get out of the way' so much as "wind him up and then get out of the way".
I kind of have a low bar for 'Beverly Hills Cop', though. I don't even like the first one all that much, except for Murphy and a few of the side characters.
