I thought the Mandarin thing was great, and was surprised that it didn't totally kill in my theatre (which was way too empty for a 9pm screening last night).
I liked it alot, but didn't love it. I think there's a really cool movie lurking in there, but it gets kind of bogged down in stuff that starts and stops, goes nowhere, or feels like it was cut down to the bone. Still, there's a really awesome movie in there, and I love that it becomes basically a detective story/crime movie forced into this superhero framework.
The 3D, on the other hand, was harrible. But I might've been sitting too close. I might see it again to see it if I like it more without that impediment.
ETA: I did think it was kind of goofy that the big climax of the movie is robots fighting people I don't really care about.

Still don't see why anyone cares, unless they feel that someone else's decision not to have kids is somehow a criticism of their decision to have them (it isn't).
Just from where I am, as people are approaching thirty, or right on either side of it, they get very defensive about why they're going to have kids, or why they're not going to have kids. It's tied into your partner, whether or not you're dating, etc. There's a lot that goes into it, and a lot of people are sensitive about it... Which I totally get... but honestly, nobody wants to hear whether you do want to have kids, or whether you don't. Unless it's somebody you could be makin' a baby with, of course. But if it's just some friend -- or worse and more likely, someone you've met at a party -- I'm about as interested in hearing their reasons pro or against as they would if I spent 20 minutes explaining why I went to the Pizzeria or the Deli this afternoon (wasn't that hungry, having a nice dinner, and in the mood for something garlicy).

Everybody needs to read PRESENT SHOCK, which is this newish book by David Rushkoff about how societally and technologically, we're totally and completely in the "now"; past, present and future are all converging into this one place, this "now" and how it's fucking up our stories, our politics, and ourselves.

I don't understand where you people keep running into folks that are going "So, I totally don't want kids" for like five minutes at a clip, ha.
I'm 27 I'm 29. Where I keep running into folks like that is exactly the place you're going to be in in 2 years.

So that's not the pilot proper, huh? My on demand listed it as episode 102.
But I liked it, even if it's months since I listened to his show. I didn't even mind the seriousness; it almost felt like an episode of WTF.
Not in love, but I'd watch again.
What was with the Apatow dig?

My opinion here is going to be heavily leaning Braff as I just enjoy everything the guy does. I watched Scrubs every week (even when they moved it multiple times), even the crappy "After Scrubs" season. I really liked Garden State but I haven't seen it in years so I'm not sure how well it's aged for me. Hell I even like his stupid commercials where he voices a dog or water, I enjoy his portrayal of WATER, this is how much of a fan I am of his. All of these things about Zach Braff that you enjoy -- Scrubs, Other Scrubs, the Charmin commercials, the Water commercials -- are things he is paid for. Handsomely. He's probably made enough Dingleberry Bear commercials to fund 3 Wish I Were Here's, so him using the same platforms that friends of mine who are in $60,000 dollars worth of debt use is really shitty and lame (I mean, the people I know that use shouldn't use it, but that's another story). It isn't even comparable to the VMars movie because those players are not rolling in it to the degree Braff is, and Braff isn't even offering a way to see the fucking movie!

Side Effects Mama Upstream Color new! To The Wonder Stoker The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
I liked it a lot, and I think it's a step-up from Primer, but the middle third feels like the same scene over and over again, with slight variations. However, I thought it really stuck the landing, and the last 5, 10 minutes are really something else (which is funny, as the friend I saw it with loved it until the ending).

This show got a second season. I'm super duper happy, and I look forward to him attempting to make an episode that could possibly be funnier than last week's finale.
Mm... toasty.
